Hoppiness would not be possible without the support of staff and managers in the care homes. It thrives and grows on the fertile ground of their energy, passion, skills and knowledge of their residents.
They told us why they thought what we were doing complemented their work and how it has affected people taking part:
“I’m very conscious in a group of really trying to empower people, rather than me doing it. So, it was lovely, […] offering those choices for people – it’s so important.”
“It has been a fun experience, enjoying the arts and crafts as well as the planting and harvesting. It was inclusive for everyone.”
“What I really noticed was [B] who had been in the other room, who had been in pain… all I can say is that as the session went on, he came to the table and he blossomed, and he smiled and he engaged and he went down his memory lane, and that was just magical.”
“And [M] getting up to dance! […] It doesn’t have to be about words, does it?”
“As one of our residents said, ‘it’s nice to do something different and have fun doing it!’”
We hope this shows that, as one of the staff we worked with put it: “It’s not all about the beer, is it?”
